Wind Tides for Trombone and Piano
It's a lucky composer who has the luxury of collaborating with a great player. Working with trombonist, Andrew Malloy, who commissioned this work, I learned a great deal from him about the different sonorities, positions, and challenges of his instrument.
Wind Tides for trombone and piano is a mini-concerto in a single movement with a fairly lengthy cadenza. It is in ABA form. The title comes from the obvious reference to the breath required for this instrument and from the ebb and flow of the music. Andy plans to record Wind Tides for his newest CD of trombone works. |
